Thousands of farmers from the provinces of Colon and Coclé have benefited from the expansion of the mining sector.

Meanwhile, according to the environmental groups, this represents ecological damage.

Petaquilla mining Company arrived in the Donoso area in Colon two years ago, however the most immediate way of getting there is through the province of Coclé

Development in rural and remote areas of northern Cocle and Colon has been significant, lifestyle has changed and many families have the resources to support their families.

Farmers say the mining project should not be closed, but should be supervised to prevent environmental damage; we all agree with the protection of nature, but without that meaning unemployment.

This company is not extracting gold as yet, and residents claim not to know of the use of any chemical material.

On the subject, Rafael Eiseric, deputy director of operations for the mining company, explained that they are currently in the construction phase of the gold processing plant.

He clarified that cyanide is not been used, as it has been claimed.

So far about 1,300 people are working in the mining Project, that has become their hope for improving their lives, but he reiterated that one must always be vigilant to avoid harming nature.
